The Saudi Association for Energy Economics (SAEE) is delighted to invite you to the first dinner meeting following the successful inauguration by His Excellency Ali Naimi Minster of Petroleum and Minerals. On this occasion, Peter Davies will present “Changing Concepts of Oil Sustainability?” This event will take place at the Movenpick Hotel, Al-Khobar, at 7:15 PM on December 8, 2009.

The SAEE is a local chapter of the International Association of Energy Economics (IAEE). The association’s mission is to provide an interdisciplinary forum for the exchange of ideas, experiences and issues among businesses, academics and other professionals interested in the field of energy economics. In addition, it promotes the understanding and application of economics across all aspects of energy sources. Given the central role that energy plays in the Saudi economy, we believe that SAEE could serve as an arm to promote energy efficiencies and develop the local understanding of the challenges facing the energy industry. In addition, it will facilitate more dialogue between the various energy economics interested parties including local banks, universities, private companies and other related government agencies.

You are encouraged to register online for this event using the registration form on the left. On-site registration will start at 5:00 PM and close at 6:30 PM. Kindly, note that seats are limited and priority will be given to first registrants.

Professor Peter Davies

Dr. Peter Davies is an international and energy economist with over 30 years’ experience in the oil and gas business, international finance and economic development. He was Chief Economist of BP for 17 years. During that time he was responsible for BP’s analysis of oil and energy markets and he played a key role in the development of corporate strategy. He was also responsible for the publication and presentation of BP’s flagship Statistical Review of World Energy.He is now an independent economic consultant advising governments, companies and financial institutions. He is a member of the Council for Science and Technology, the UK Government’s top-level, independent advisory body on science and technology policy issues. He has been an Honorary Professor at the Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law & Policy at the University of Dundee for over 10 years. He is an economic advisor to Anglo American plc, the National Bank of Kuwait and The Parkmead Group. He has previously worked as an Economist for Chase Manhattan Bank, the World Bank and the Government of Swaziland.

Professor Mohammed Al-Sahlawi, (SAEE President)

Dr. Mohammed A. Alsahlawi is a Professor of Economics, Department of Finance and Economics, College of Industrial Management, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM), and previous Dean of the College of Industrial Management. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Wisconsin, USA. Dr. Alsahlawi was the Director of OPEC Information Department and OPEC News Agency from 1991-1995, and a member of the Advisory Board of the Saudi Arabian Supreme Economic Council from 1997-2002. He established and was the Director of the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) from 2001-2006. Dr. Alsahlawi serves on several editorial boards of international journals in energy economics and business economics and his publications have appeared in several energy economics journals.

Professor Georg Erdmann, (IAEE President)

Dr. Georg Erdmann is Professor for Energy Systems at the Berlin University of Technology since 1995. Before, he was Assistant Professor at the Center for Economic Research, Swiss Federal
Institute of Technology, Zürich, and Delegate at the Paul Scherer Institute, Villigen. He is trained in Mathematics and Economics, and received his Ph.D. in Economics at the University of Münster / Germany, in 1981.His research fields cover energy economics including price formation and forecasting, energy innovations and energy markets, investment strategies and risk management. He has also research experience in the field of evolutionary economics and regional economics. He is author of several books and scientific articles.He is founder of the company Prognoseforum GmbH which is quite successful in economic forecasting and energy consulting, and president of the board, KSB Energy AG, Berlin.Among many other mandates he chairs the Gesellschaft für Energiewissenschaft und Energiepolitik, German affiliate of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE). In 2009 he is President of the IAEE.
